Clinical Learning Australia (CLA) has officially launched! In a major step forward for medical education, CLA, the innovative national ePortfolio platform designed to streamline and standardise the training of early-career doctors across Australia, is now live.

Developed in partnership between MyKnowledgeMap, the Australian Medical Council (AMC), and the National ePortfolio Project Board (NEPB), CLA represents a significant milestone in the digitisation of medical education.

A Unified Approach to Medical Training

Until now, the training experience for Postgraduate Year 1 and 2 (PGY1 & PGY2) doctors in Australia varied between states and territories. CLA changes that. For the first time, Australia has a national digital platform that unifies how prevocational doctors record their learning, receive feedback, and track their progress, no matter where they are.

Aligned with the AMC’s National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training, CLA ensures a consistent, high-quality experience across all jurisdictions. The platform simplifies the complex ecosystem of assessments, rotations, and supervision into a single, accessible system.

Designed with Nationwide Collaboration

CLA is not just a software solution; it's the product of extensive consultation and collaboration. A dedicated project board comprising of representatives from state and territory Postgraduate Medical Councils, health departments, and MyKnowledgeMap helped shape the platform. This input ensured that CLA accommodates the unique needs of Australia’s diverse healthcare training environments.

Key Features: Practical, Powerful, and Future-Focused

Clinical Learning Australia is packed with features that support Administrators, Trainees, Supervisors, Directors of Clinical Training (DCT), Executive Directors of Medical Services (EDMS), Assessment Review Panel (ARP) Members, and the broader healthcare system.

Mobile Accessibility with Offline Capability

Trainees can access their portfolios and be assessed wherever they are on placement, even in remote or rural areas where connectivity may be limited.

Standardised Assessments

The platform supports Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), Mid and End of Term Assessments, Reflections, Logbooks, and more, providing a consistent way to evaluate clinical competence.

Enhanced Supervision and Communication

CLA strengthens the supervisory relationship by making feedback loops more immediate and visible, helping Supervisors and Trainees stay aligned.

Data-Driven Insights

Trainees collect evidence of learning and map it to their Prevocational Outcome Statements, which allows Trainees and other stakeholders to monitor their progress with the 'Progress View' feature.

Dashboards for faculty and supervisors give an at-a-glance overview of individual and cohort group progress. Users can instantly identify at-risk trainees, facilitating intervention with targeted support, ultimately leading better supported trainees and reduced attrition.

A Long-Term Vision for Lifelong Learning

With the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) set to take over ongoing management in 2026, CLA is built for longevity. Future updates will include:

  • Further expansion to the advanced analytics to provide deeper insights into training progress

  • Integration with other health education systems

  • Opens up possibilities to further expansion to other postgraduate groups

As Adam Doyle, CEO of MyKnowledgeMap, puts it:

“CLA brings consistency, accessibility, and innovation to support the growth of Australia’s future doctors.”
