Karolinska Institutet Launches MyProgress

MyKnowledgeMap is delighted to announce its workplace-based assessment and e-portfolio tool, MyProgress, is launching at the world renowned Karolinska Institutet.

Karolinska Institutet, or The Karolinska Institute (KI), is Sweden’s largest centre of medical academic research and offers the country’s widest range of medical courses and programmes. KI is one of the world’s foremost medical universities, with rankings consistently reflecting this. The QS World University Rankings ranks KI as the best in Sweden for medicine, and 7th worldwide in 2023.

Due to the general shift in teaching and learning away from high stake exams towards more student-centred learning, the need for tools to facilitate and support ongoing assessment has risen. Clinical placements expose students to authentic experiences, whilst also being supervised by tutors. Therefore, lots of data from numerous supervisors needs to be accumulated on behalf of different health providers.

As a result, KI wanted to implement a digital platform that promotes self-directed learning through gathering data on student performance, competence, and learning. KI also wanted an associated e-portfolio for documentation of competence and learning for the undergraduate programmes, as well as analytics illustrating student progression.

KI selected MyKnowledgeMap’s MyProgress as the digital platform for assessing the progress and competence of learners on its medicine, nursing, dentistry, and physiotherapy programmes.

Karolinska Institutet's eportfolio MyProgress

Here you can see the administrator's view of how students are progressing. Red marks highlight areas where a student requires support, enabling staff to quickly tailor relevant support where and when needed.

MyProgress now supports KI’s students' and teachers' workflow for assessment and learning in progress. At KI, marked assessments of students are carried out at course level, rather than programme level. This longitudinal approach to assessment is easy to support with MyProgress thanks to the flexible configuration of each portfolio.

Some of the MyProgress features that support KI include:

  • Offline functionality
  • Students can visualise their progress
  • Faculty staff and programme management can see individual student and cohort progress
  • Faculty staff and programme management can identify areas where extra support may be needed
  • Ensure that set rules, criteria, and goals are complied with
  • Clear mapping of education with learning objectives
  • Course management can extract data for learning analytics
  • Speech to text functionality
  • The ability to upload unlimited documents and forms
  • Faculty staff can get an overall picture of student performance and professional competence
  • Supports reflective practice
  • Capacity for several thousand users within KI

MyKnowledgeMap is proud to provide MyProgress as the digital solution to help KI monitor and measure student progression, support learning, and ultimately increase performance and improve education.
