MyKnowledgeMap support launch of Duke of York's new Award

16 January, 2017

His Royal Highness The Duke of York launched the Inspiring Digital Enterprise (iDEA) award at a reception at St. James's Palace today. The MyKnowledgeMap team were there, and have supported the award by producing a bite-sized overview of Digital Portfolios.

iDEA is a national project that helps you badge your brilliance. Through a series of online challenges and events, learners can win career-enhancing badges, unlock new opportunities and, ultimately, gain nationally recognised awards that helps them stand out from the crowd.

Badges and Digital Portfolios are close to our hearts, and the team at MyKnowledgeMap have produced a bite-sized learning topic for the project that, upon successful completion, earns young digital entrepreneurs a badge which counts towards their iDEA Bronze Award. The badge focusses on how portfolios can help them, and is intended to spark prospective digital workers with inspirational ideas to enhance their future career prospects; it went live just in time for the official launch of iDEA.

Anyone can have a go at the badges – all you have to do is register on iDEA.

The Digital Portfolios badge uses some example celebrity portfolios to guide learners through the sorts of things that should and shouldn't be used to showcase yourself to best advantage. It offers some interactive opportunities to put yourself in the shoes of some successful individuals and have a think about how they could present themselves to best advantage.

The award is already proving to be very popular and at the St James's Palace launch event, the Duke of York presented the first five Bronze Award winners from local schools with their iDEA certificates in person:

The success of the initiative underlines the importance of themes like digital badges, micro-credentials of skills, and ways of showcasing personal capability which have long been areas of interest for MyKnowledgeMap. We are very proud to be associated with this important project.
