15 January 2007 - MyKnowledgeMap develop Diabetes Diagnostic Tool as part of LEAP project

MyKnowledgeMap was delighted to be able to assist with the important LEAP project by supplying the technical capability needed to produce an innovative Diabetes Diagnostic Tool.

As partners of the project, MyKnowledgeMap have been working closely alongside Brent Teaching PCT to deliver the online diagnostic tool, the purpose of which will be to support improvements in the care of people with diabetes within the community. Tom Leach, Project Director for Brent Teaching PCT says of the tool, “By ensuring higher skill levels, increasing public screening programmes and improving preventative care we intend to reduce emergency admissions to the local hospital. The online diagnostic will enable us to rapidly create a profile of the skill levels across all staff groups in any area and manage workforce development in an efficient way”.

The LEAP project is a partnership of public and private training organisations who work together to identify specific skills gaps within the Health sector. The main aim of the Diabetes Diagnostic Tool is to help GPs, specialist nurses, pharmacists, dentists and healthcare professionals improve their understanding of diabetes by identifying skill gaps in their knowledge and linking them to appropriate learning. The tool is currently being piloted in GP practices and community health teams in North-West London and has attracted the support of the sector training agency, Skills for Health and the national diabetes tsar, Dr Sue Roberts.

MKM is no stranger to work of this nature, having worked alongside key partners in the health industry to produce a successful online Diabetes Care Academy. Our Diabetes Diagnostic Tool will form part of the important LEAP project which has seen us work alongside Multi-Ed to further develop training resources for professionals working in the field of diabetes.
