02 May 2006 - MKM assist SkillsActive government bid

MKM have been contracted to provide consultancy support for the sector skills council SkillsActive to assist in the construction of their proposal to the government for a National Skills Academy in Sports and Leisure.

The Active Leisure and Learning sector is vibrant and is expanding rapidly. A National Skills Academy will work to deliver the highest quality of vocational learning and will ensure that employers have access to a wider range of quality assured and cost-effective training. The preferred structure for the Academy is a regional ‘hub’ network supported by national faculties. These will work together to coordinate a lead forum of employers, training providers, partners, and trade associations in specialist subject areas.

SkillsActive is the Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure and Learning, established by employers in the leisure industry. It is recognised and licensed by the government and is charged with leading the skills and productivity drive within the Active Leisure and Learning Sector. The council’s key objectives are to ensure a high quality of training and qualifications, help people find the jobs and training they need, make sure that the industry attracts and retains the right staff and attract funding to help meet employers’ training needs.

SkillsActive believe that National Skills Academies are the single most important reform facing skills training today. They will lead the changes and innovations required to give the industry the skilled workforce it needs to drive forward organisational performance. MyKnowledgeMap are excited to be involved with this project which will bring many benefits to employers including training subsidies, increased productivity and profitability, higher recruitment standards and employer-driven training.
