The Chartered Management Institute Levels 3 (First Line Manager) and 5 (Professional Manager)

Client: The Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the only chartered professional body that is dedicated to management and leadership.

Challenge: To develop an entirely new set of e-learning materials for CMI. The learning had to be custom-friendly, flexible, and bite-size for leaders and managers whose available learning time is limited.

Solution: CMI and MyKnowledgeMap teamed up to create exclusive e-learning courses in management and leadership training. MyKnowledgeMap created full course materials for achieving the Levels 3 (First Line Manager) and 5 (Professional Manager) official qualifications of the Institute.

The courses consist of a combination of e-learning, engaging activities and assessments. Each module is broken down into topics which clarify different strategies and styles of management. In total, the courses comprise of over 100 hours of top-quality training material.

Modules include:

  • Developing management style
  • Effective financial management
  • Recruitment and selection
  • Effective communication and information management
  • Managing performance

The learning is highly interactive, and offers many opportunities for individuals to reflect on what they are learning. They focus on maximising management potential through developing knowledge and understanding in the most fundamental skills areas of management and leadership.

Client: The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), the sector-owned body, formed from CEL and QIA to develop excellent and sustainable FE provision across the sector.

Challenge: The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (which was then known as the Centre for Excellence in Leadership) wished to develop two online toolkits consisting of activities and materials which leaders within educational institutions could access at a time that suited them.

Solution: MyKnowledgeMap created tailor-made toolkits for groups of leaders within particular educational subsectors: The Adult Community Learning (ACL) leadership toolkit was aimed at busy managers and head teachers, while the second toolkit was developed specifically for leaders at Independent Specialist Colleges (ISC).

Because the toolkits are available online, learners can access the activities and materials at a time that suits them. Both include custom-made e-learning courseware which covers key aspects of management and leadership.

The toolkits provide learners with a “notepad” facility that allows them to build a record of CPD and collect notes for feeding forward as they go through the course. Notes entered into the notepad are stored in LSIS’s Moodle learning platform

Foundation Degree Forward logoFoundation Degree in Retail

Client: Foundation Degree Forward (FDF), a national body that supports the development and validation of high quality work-based Foundation degrees.

Challenge: Foundation Degree Forward awarded the contract to produce a Foundation Degree in Retail to MyKnowledgeMap, the Retail Academy, University of the Arts London and Manchester Metropolitan University. The degree would be piloted by retail giant Tesco and needed to be suitable for both experienced retail professionals and new entrants to the sector.

Solution: As the technical developer for the project, MyKnowledgeMap created a combination of e-learning and an online classroom for this unique programme.

Tesco logoThe e-learning provided by MyKnowledgeMap was interactive and customisable. Tesco were able to use Compendle to rebrand the e-learning with their logo and company colours. They could also replace standard images with ones more relevant to their employees and add extra content.

The online classroom system allowed Tesco employees to use personal learning spaces and e-learning to hone their skills in cooperation with tutors at University of the Arts London and Manchester Metropolitan University. The e-learning included a learning log so that the learners could make notes and record responses to exercises which could be read by their tutor.

Booths logoThe Foundation Degree in Retail has now been rolled out on a national scale and can be tailored to suit all retailers. It has been taken up by other prestigious clients, including Booths supermarket, who are putting members of their store management team through the degree using Manchester Metropolitan University.
