Java Web Developer
A fantastic opportunity has just opened for an enthusiastic Web Developer with Java experience, in one of the UK's award winning learning technologies companies based in the historic city of York.
Established for 10 years in the Learning Technology Industry, we are now seeking an additional developer to support the growth of the business and new projects. The successful candidate will join the company's team of designers and developers, working on the delivery of national-scale projects for well known companies and organisations ranging from Tesco to the NHS.
This role will initially involve working on an innovative portfolio aggregation tool with further opportunities to work with public and private sector companies in the delivery of innovative web-based systems including learning delivery systems, e-Academies, e-Portfolio systems and Training Need Analysis tools. The successful candidate should ideally have experience or understanding of learning technologies.
Working at the cutting edge of learning technology, as a Java Developer you will be working on highly dynamic web applications, delivering simple, clean and maintainable code. The role will require a thorough understanding of server side technologies.
Core responsibilities:
Evaluating and communicating progress on timescales and limitations to the project leader
Delivering software projects and support as required
Testing and validating work produced
Ensuring all work carried out is well documented
Presenting concepts to the team and clients
Desired knowledge/experience:
Java programming experience
Experience using XHTML
A good understanding of semantic mark-up and accessibility
An understanding of the software development process
Experience in the learning technology industry and experience of systems integration

As a Java Developer you should also have attention to detail, the ability to meet challenging deadlines and a willingness to learn and develop your skills.
Essential skills: Java, SQL, XHTML, XML
Desirable skills: Microsoft.NET v2 & v3, C#, frameworks, XSLT, CSS
Salary: Negotiable depending on experience
Degree/HND: Minimum 2:1
