Manchester City Council VLE

Client:

Manchester City Council

Primary aims:

To provide a VLE that would host 3rd party learning.

To provide a design for a VLE for use by all Manchester City Council employees.

Key Challenges:

To deliver a structure suitable for over 25,000 employees, working in a wide spectrum of jobs and in a considerable range of working environments.

To ensure that the VLE would successfully accommodate 3rd party learning so that it could be delivered to best effect.

Solution:

MyKnowledgeMap has built a bespoke VLE delivery system for installation on the Council's intranet, so that all Manchester city employees, in all departments, can access online learning. To ensure that this works to best effect, MyKnowledgeMap has developed the VLE in close relationship with the council and the 3rd party learning provider.

The learning provided by the Council enables all employees to make effective use of the Council's newly-installed intranet.

The VLE also enables the Council to check users' progress throughout the course, and to track the scores attained in tests. Feedback can then be collated in a range of ways, ranging from macro to micro:

  • By organisation
  • By department
  • By individual

Manchester City Council's VLE system went up in spring 2006, with an immediate initial migration of over 4,000 users across the Council.
